Welcome to Michael Stephan's Tuba Site!

Michael Stephan is currently the principal tuba for the Orchestra of Indian Hill, the Brookline Symphony and Mercury Orchestra. He is also a tubist with the Modern Brass Quintet and Occasional Brass and Strings (which received the WeddingWire 2011 2012 Bride's Choice Award - Top 5 percent of Wedding Pros nationwide!). An active freelance musician, Michael has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Opera Company, New World Symphony Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic, Albany Symphony, Boston Philharmonic, West Virginia Symphony, Vermont Symphony and many orchestras throughout the New England Region. He has also held principal and acting principal positions with Youngstown Symphony, Canton Symphony, Boston Civic Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra to name a few.

His varied performance travels have taken him to Brazil, Venezuela, England, Scotland, Wales, Portugal, Spain, Canada, and across the United States. Michael has worked as adjunct faculty at Duquesne University and Amherst College. He has coached numerous New England Conservatory (NEC) prep ensembles including Sr/Jr Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensembles, Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, Festival Youth Orchestra and multiple chamber ensembles. He has an Artist Diploma from Duquesne University, a Masters in Music from NEC, and a Bachelor of Music from UMass Amherst. In his spare time, Michael loves to ride bicycles, camp, hike mountains and play outside!
